We won an IPPY!

We won an IPPY!

Sex Still Spoken Here was just named the Gold Medal winner in the Erotica category of the IPPY Awards. This is a big deal for us as the Independent Publishing Awards (IPPY) are one of the most prestigious for those of us in the world of small publishers. To compete against the likes of Cleis Press was an honor.

You can see all the winners here but here’s a sneak preview of our category:

The “IPPY” Awards, launched in 1996, are designed to bring increased recognition to the deserving but often unsung titles published by independent authors and publishers. Established as the first awards program open exclusively to independents, over 3,000 “IPPYs” have been awarded to authors and publishers around the world.

Independent publishers are extremely diverse, in both style and geography. This year’s IPPY medalists represent 45 U.S. states plus the District of Columbia, six Canadian provinces, and ten countries overseas: Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Spain, and the United Kingdom.

Sex Still Spoken Here named Foreword Reviews’ 2014 INDIEFAB Book of the Year Awards FinalistINDIEFAB-logo-250x250-2

We are pleased to announce that Sex Still Spoken Here has been recognized as a finalist in the 17th annual Foreword Reviews’ INDIEFAB Book of the Year Awards. Here is the complete list: https://indiefab.forewordreviews.com/finalists/2014/

Each year, Foreword Reviews shines a light on a select group of indie publishers, university presses, and self-published authors whose work stands out from the crowd.

In the next three months, a panel of more than 100 volunteer librarians and booksellers will determine the winners in 63 categories based on their experience with readers and patrons.

“After 17 years, our awards program has become synonymous with quality because our editors set such a high bar on the finalist round, which makes it especially tough for the judges who select the winners,” said Victoria Sutherland, publisher of Foreword Reviews. “In every genre, our judges will find an interesting, high-quality selection of books culled from this year’s entries.”

Foreword Reviews will celebrate the winners during a program at the American Library Association Annual Conference in San Francisco on Friday, June 26 at 6 p.m. at the Pop Top Stage in the exhibit hall. Everyone is welcome. The Editor’s Choice Prize for Fiction, Nonfiction, and Foreword Reviews’ 2014 INDIEFAB Publisher of the Year Award will also be announced during the presentation.

The new website

Well one things leads to another.

We’re making a PR plan and, in the course of that, I realized we needed a new website. So look what I made this weekend! It was a descent down into a WordPress rabbit hole but I feel like this old dog has learned some new tricks.

Although we’ll be blogging erratically, every now and again something fun will pop here.
Like this, one of my favorite quotes by Dorothy Allison (you’ll find it on page 131).

Write the story that you were always afraid to tell. I swear to you that there is magic in it, and if you show yourself naked for me, I’ll be naked for you. It will be our covenant.
